An integrated math/family consumer science cooperative unit
Authors: Kathy Meyer and Debbie Favro
Grade Level: 7
Overview:This is an integration of academic and nonacademic (EXP) courses. Students will learn and apply mathematical knowledge to common life experiences through Family and Consumer Science. Numerous hands-on experiences will be used to teach and later evaluate knowledge and a more clear understanding. “Doing math is so much more effective than memorizing math”, sates the author of the new Mathematics Course 2 book, by Glencoe. Cooperative learning helps students with academic achievement and interpersonal skills. Therefore, declarative knowledge will be taught in the Family and Consumer Science class. The teacher’s task is to coordinate the information so that it takes place in the proper order.
