Overview: Through the reading of the novel, Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson (retold by Earle Hitchner) the students will explore the world of survival. The children will read a variety of genres which focus on the "spirit of survival." The students will be given various survival situations and plan strategies n teams for survival. This unit is an interdisciplinary unit including ELA, Math, Social Studies and Character Education. For a culminating activity, the children will perform "Treasure Island" for their peers and parents.
