Monday Morning Fables

Author: Dottie Broderick

Grade Level: Grade 2

Overview: In this unit children will be introduced to fables. They will read simple versions of Aesop’s fables to gain literary comprehension skills. Students will interpret the morals of the fables and illustrate the stories read in class. They will perform listening reading, speaking and writing activities and relate the moral to the curriculum in Second Step Program. They will apply problem solving strategies to the problem in the fable; recognize angry behavior and explain the anger-reduction techniques learned in Second Step. Students will create posters, puppets, books and pictures to reflect what was learned in the fables. These will be displayed throughout the school to encourage others to make responsible decisions.
